Locating a Private School with a Generic Method

Abstract

The application presented in this chapter deals with private schools. The history of schools has been well documented, for an in-depth description, see Urban et al. (American Education: A History, 6th edn., Routledge, New York, 2019), while for a brief account, we refer readers to Kennedy (A timeline of private school events and history. Private School Review, 2022). Some details may exemplify the situation. In ancient Egypt, wealthy boys would start school at age 7 (see Ancient Pages, What were ancient Egyptian schools like?, 2016), in India, a young boy would leave his home and live with his teacher, where he would receive instruction and required to do some manual labor in return (see Jain, What did the ancient Indian education system look like? Culture Trip, 2018), and in ancient Greece, education would differ greatly between the competing city states Sparta and Athens: In Sparta, young boys at the age of 6 would start school, which concentrated on military matters, while in Athens, at the age of 7, boys of wealthy parents went to school, where private tutors instructed them in the arts, mostly by reading Homer and playing a musical instrument; see, e.g., Ancient Greece Facts (Ancient Greece schools, undated).
