Abstract

Information technology has become an integral part of the provision of transport services. This has ambiguous consequences on the management of transport services—they change the service provision environment, mutual relationship between consumers and service providers, pricing, etc. Customers request actual information from companies at a specific time and prior knowledge of what is happening to the goods during their carriage. Therefore, the quality of this information is very important. Activities of transport and logistics companies are very receptive to information technology—these companies work with large amounts of information, the management of which requires a quick response. Companies are convinced that new technologies have a positive impact on activities of their company, so they are rapidly implementing specialized programmes, although until a few years ago, technology was valued by the number of available computers only. This section will address issues related to the use of IT in transport and forwarding activities.
