Giving Appointments to Patients for Surgeries, and Scheduling Surgeries to Operating Rooms in a Day

Abstract

Among several decision making problems in running the surgical suite in a hospital efficiently, this chapter considers three most important ones: allocating available operating room times to various departments, fixing surgery dates to incoming patients, and sequencing the various surgeries to be performed by a surgeon over the time of a day. We describe the approaches adopted to solve them to find efficient solutions.
