Abstract

Companies need to manage its long-term capacity-related risk carefully especially after acquisitions and mergers. In this chapter, we use the case of a plastics manufacturing company to show how a company can align its supply chain operations post-acquisition with its strategic direction by combining scenario planning with the use of supply-chain planning computer models to obtain efficient supply-chain configurations. Our approach combines aspects of business-strategy formulation with aspects of tactical supply-chain planning, making each more valuable in planning than either would be by itself.
