Abstract

This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of family businesses, discusses their definitions, and illustrates their distinctive features. This chapter reviews key theoretical frameworks in the family business literature, including agency theory, resource-based view theory, SEW theory, and stewardship theory. It also examines how family dynamics shape the corporate governance practices within these businesses, highlighting the intricate relationship between family and business.
