Abstract

Since, the detection of the groundwater arsenic contamination crisis mass mediaMass media have played a critical role in spreading awarenessAwareness about the catastropheCatastrophe . Due to their sustained reporting and efforts, awareness level has increased substantially. But, sustained communication, especially by the state and its agencies, has not happened. In fact, the state’s response has been largely reactive due to its unwillingness to accept and therefore address the crisis by reviewing literature and media reports over this period, we scrutinise the role played by mass media in spreading awareness and thereby contributing towards mitigation of the arsenic contamination of groundwater crisis.
