Abstract

We investigate the relationship between a regional tradition of entrepreneurship and the personality profilePersonality profile of the regional population. Based on the Big FiveBig Five approach of assessing someone’s personality structure we construct an entrepreneurial personality profile. We find a significant relationship between the historical level of self-employment in a region and the presence of people with an entrepreneurial personality profile today. This supports the notion of persistent regional entrepreneurship as an indicator of regional entrepreneurship culture. A pronounced regional culture of entrepreneurship is correlated not only with higher levels of new business formation today, but also with higher levels of innovationInnovation activity in terms of patentPatents per population in working age.
