mHealth’s Potential for Measuring Work Attitudes in Psychological and Physical Factors

Abstract

Owing to technological advances in implantable biosensors (e.g., heart rate sensors and skin temperature sensors), wearable health devices are now sufficiently powerful to monitor the health status and physical load of workers using digital solutions such as mHealth. Today’s wearable devices, such as wristbands, watches, and underwear, are lightweight and comfortable to wear in physical activities and are extremely useful in monitoring a large number of people using the cloud and databases through smartphones without interfering with the progress of work and for visualizing the participants’ biometric information. In this chapter, the potential for quantitative labor management of employees through mHealth based on the case of construction workers is described. Because the physical and psychological risks faced by workers are increasing owing to the increasing sophistication and complexity of technology, the quantification of work attitudes and workloads for the psychological and physical factors of workers in labor-intensive environments are discussed. For companies that employ a large number of workers, ensuring that they have the necessary labor without sacrificing their health and safety is a critical challenge.
