Abstract

The Netherlands | Aleksandra (Ally) Dragozet is a marine biologist, social entrepreneur, sustainable tourism expert with 10+ years of experience in the tourism industry as both a professional and an operator. Ally holds a Master of Aquatic Biology/Limnology from the University of Amsterdam and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Toronto and the National University of Singapore. Ally founded the sustainable tourism consultancy Sea Going Green in 2017 to alleviate the negative impacts of the tourism industry on the marine environment. By measuring the environmental impact (CO2 and waste flows) of marine tourism operators, coastal businesses and island destinations, Ally has gained deep insights into the changes that need to be made in the tourism industry to enable sustainable tourism in marine-dependent areas, especially SIDS. As a marine biologist, Ally understands that the profitability of coastal and island destinations is linked to the health of the local biodiversity.
