Abstract

Saint Lucia | With a Geology degree and RYA Yachtmaster certification, James originally came to the Caribbean as a yacht captain, divemaster and Earth Science instructor for Seamester Programs in 1997. His Master’s degree in Responsible Tourism Management (2010) brings together his interest in the environment, community and tourism. He helps provide a holistic framework to assist communities to develop sustainable tourism strategies of appropriate scale and suitability for fragile ecosystems whilst ensuring livelihoods from market-ready and in-demand products for discerning tourists. His own company, Jus’ Sail Ltd. in St Lucia, is the recipient of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation Sustainable Tourism Award (Community Benefit) and was runner up in the WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards in the same category. James has undertaken numerous responsible tourism consultancies across the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and currently managing the Union Island Climate Change Adaptation Project for International Conservation Charity Fauna & Flora International.
