Abstract

Decentralized finance (DeFI) is a new financial system that was built from scratch over blockchain technology. The decentralization and openness of smart contracts have created conditions suited to building financial services that do not rely on traditional institutions or middlemen. Lending, borrowing, trading, funding, asset management, derivatives such as options and synthetics and insurance are some of the services that DeFi offers. New paradigms in such important businesses that seek massive gains of cryptopioneers are attracting much attention and investment. Additionally, a new way of funding and ruling startups is mixed with the traditional venture capital and startup ecosystem. An overview of blockchain concepts, DeFi key functioning and the relation with startups is then presented.
