Abstract

The study of business history constitutes a fundamental tool for understanding processes of economic, social, and cultural change. Analysing the trajectories of companies and entrepreneurs allows us to recognise that the economy is not an abstraction, but rather the outcome of decisions, strategies, and organisational dynamics embedded within specific historical contexts. This perspective helps to unravel the interaction between individual initiative, institutional structures, and technological transformations, providing a more comprehensive understanding of economic development. Furthermore, business history encourages reflection on entrepreneurial culture and the mechanisms of adaptation in response to the challenges posed by globalisation, digitalisation, and structural crises. Its study not only broadens our understanding of the economic past but also offers insights into contemporary forms of management, innovation, and corporate social responsibility. In this way, business history establishes itself as an interdisciplinary field linking economics, sociology, history, and management, contributing to an understanding of the firm as both an agent of change and an institution with social significance extending beyond purely economic dimensions.
