Abstract

The chapter “Zoom in! Assessing Digital Responsibility in the Company” provides an in-depth exploration of the diverse dimensions of digital responsibility within corporate settings. It begins by outlining how organizations can systematically assess their current status in this area, introducing key tools such as the Digital Responsibility Check and the Digital Responsibility Compass, which help companies identify strengths and gaps in their digital practices. Building on this foundation, the chapter delves into a wide range of interconnected responsibility areas, examining how digital maturity and digital diversity serve as key enablers for a responsible digital culture. It discusses the revitalization of corporate respectability in the digital age and emphasizes the importance of openness and sharing as guiding principles for transparency and collaboration. The responsible management of artificial intelligence is explored alongside the imperative of digital sustainability, highlighting both environmental and social aspects. Further, the chapter addresses the transformation of workplaces in the context of digitalization and the need to protect individuals in increasingly digital environments. It explores the empowerment of users through data sovereignty, as well as the role of human-centered design in fostering digital interactions that prioritize dignity and inclusion. The chapter also sheds light on how eco start-ups and social impact initiatives can drive positive change while showcasing the potential of technology to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, it critically examines ethical marketing practices, the pursuit of zero waste in digital processes, and the often-overlooked ecological footprint of data usage, referred to as the footprint of “bits and bytes.” Throughout, the chapter offers a comprehensive analysis of these areas and provides actionable insights into how companies can embed digital responsibility into their organizational culture, policies, and innovation processes.
