Abstract

This study investigates research trends related to financial inclusion in Islamic finance, aiming to enhance inclusion efforts in Islamic financial institutions worldwide. Utilizing a hybrid review method that integrates bibliometric analysis with content analysis, this research examines 97 documents sourced from Scopus, covering publications up to July 2024. The study identifies 4 critical streams essential for enhancing financial inclusion in Islamic financial institutions globally, based on the 26 most relevant studies: the availability of Islamic financial products and services, the support for a sustainable Islamic financial ecosystem utilizing fintech, the promotion of financial inclusion and Islamic literacy, and the strengthening of the roles of Islamic banks. Notably, Nigeria, Malaysia, and Indonesia significantly influence global financial inclusion in Islamic finance. Government and policymakers especially in Muslim-majority countries are encouraged to focus on these four key factors to improve financial inclusion in Islamic financial institutions globally.
