The paper addresses the basic technical features of ENUM, it gives an overview of the objectives, the time schedule, the stakeholders and the financing schemes of the ENUM field trials, it analyses DNS concepts and their requirements for the implementation of ENUM, it tackles the ENUM service potential, it addresses IT-security issues and ENUM specific data protection problems and it highlights the requirements for the future utilisation of ENUM.
