Abstract

Tin mining in Muntok, West Bangka, plays a strategic role in driving regional economic growth through its contribution to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and improvements in the Human Development Index (HDI). Nevertheless, these activities have also generated significant ecological pressures, including the expansion of critical land, deforestation, and water pollution. This condition reflects a development paradox, where short-term economic gains risk undermining long-term environmental sustainability. This study applies a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach by analyzing academic publications, official data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), and reports from environmental organizations covering the period 2015–2025. The findings indicate that although tin mining contributes to the local economy, its benefits are unevenly distributed and have negative spillover effects on other sectors, particularly agriculture and fisheries. These results reinforce the relevance of the resource curse and Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) theories within the local context of West Bangka. The study recommends a post-mining economic transition strategy through the development of marine tourism, fisheries, and small– medium enterprises, alongside stronger environmental rehabilitation policies to ensure sustainable regional development.
