Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the deductive and inductive approaches in research methodology and to examine students’ abilities in applying both quantitative and qualitative research through concept mapping. The research employed both primary and secondary data, involving a total population of 208 respondents from the fifth semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, consisting of regular students and RPL (working students) enrolled in the International Business Management Program. Descriptive statistics were used as the main technique of data analysis. The findings reveal that students demonstrated a clear understanding and achievement in mastering research methodology criteria through both deductive and inductive approaches. Furthermore, the mapping of students’ choices in research types indicated that quantitative research was more dominant, representing 64% of respondents, while qualitative research was applied by 36% of respondents. These results highlight the students’ capability to utilize different research paradigms and reflect the relevance of combining methodological approaches in supporting their academic development and future professional practice.
