Abstract

Seasonal products occupy an essential place in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, one of the most rapidly expanding industries worldwide. These items—spanning electronics, electrical appliances, computer accessories, fashion apparel, and perishable foods—share a common trait: they spoil quickly or become outdated within a limited period. This research explores the ramp-type demand pattern typical of such products, where market interest and consumption escalate and then decline within a defined season. Because the planning horizon is finite and the products are vulnerable to both degradation and a proportion of faulty units, the inventory model treats these factors as fuzzy variables to capture real-world uncertainty. To handle this imprecision, trapezoidal fuzzy numbers are employed during the fuzzification stage, and the numerical model is subsequently defuzzified using the sign-distance method. The paper closes with empirical findings, managerial insights, and pathways for future research offering decision-makers a rigorous yet adaptable toolset for navigating the next generation of seasonal and perishable markets.
