Abstract

The paper shall examine the drivers influencing innovative work behaviour among professors in Malaysia private universities. It will also provide a preliminary assessment of the factors that influence innovative work behaviour among professors in Malaysian private universities. The current study’s conceptual framework includes five determinants (intrinsic motivation, servant leadership, charismatic leadership, knowledge sharing, and training and development), as well as innovative work behaviour. The model has a direct relationship between independent variables and dependent variable. Social cognitive theory and self-determination theory will be used as the underpinning theory for the current study. We intend to look into the fundamental factors impacting innovative work behaviour among professors in Malaysia private universities. This study demonstrates that these variables are important in determining innovative work behaviour among professors in Malaysia private universities. Based on the theory of self-determination and social cognitive have form the basis of the variables. As a result, all antecedent variables that influence innovative work behaviour among Malaysian private university teachers must be considered. Future research should focus on a comparative discussion of public and private universities in enhancing the Malaysia’s position in the Global Innovation Index (GII), as the concept of innovative work behaviour is not limited to private university settings, but can also be applied to public university settings. The proposed five antecedent factors can be used as a strategic instrument to stimulate innovative work behaviour among professors in Malaysia private universities. This is consistent with prior research, which claimed that in enhancing the Malaysia’s position in GII, it is vital for the professors to lead the innovative work behaviour in Malaysia private universities due to their expertise and forte.
