Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of local government in the development of ecotourism in Pangkajene and Islands Districts and to find out the government’s constraints in developing Leang Lodrong Tourism as one of the ecotourism centers in Pangkajene and Islands Districts. This type of research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques were carried out by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique uses condensation, data presentation, conclusion drawing and verification. The results of this study indicate that the role of the Youth and Sports Tourism Office is still not good in its implementation. This can be seen through the Siagian theory, in which only one of the five indicators has performed well, namely the role as a stabilizer, while the other four indicators are still not good, namely the role as an innovator, the role as a modernizer, the role as a pioneer and the role as the executor himself. The government’s obstacles in developing ecotourism in Pangkajene and Islands Regency are the lack of more knowledge possessed by employees, funding that is not fully allocated for ecotourism development activities, implementation patterns that do not use a complete pattern, community interest that is still minimal in terms of tourism development in Indonesia. regions, and the communication that has been established has not been harmonious enough so that the development of ecotourism in Pangkajene and Islands Regencies has not been maximized.
