Abstract

This study aims to investigate the barriers and facilitators influencing the adoption of green practices among businesses in Makassar, highlighting the disconnect between awareness and implementation. Employing a mixed-methods approach, quantitative data were collected through a survey of 30 local businesses, focusing on variables such as business sector, current environmental practices, awareness of green technologies, perceived challenges, and willingness to invest. Qualitative insights were gathered from interviews to enhance understanding of the systemic issues faced by these businesses. The results indicate that while 60% of businesses engage in some form of environmental practices, significant barriers such as funding constraints and knowledge gaps persist. This underscores the need for enhanced government support and educational initiatives to cultivate a sustainable business environment. Additionally, these findings align with existing literature on sustainability challenges in developing regions [1], [2], emphasizing the critical role of collaborative efforts among stakeholders in promoting green practices. Ultimately, the study contributes to the understanding of the complexities surrounding the adoption of sustainable practices in Makassar, offering valuable insights for policymakers and business leaders aiming to bridge the gap between awareness and action.
