Abstract

Indonesia is a country with great potential in fisheries, particularly in the shrimp farming sector. Shrimp has become one of the leading commodities due to the high market demand, both domestically and internationally. However, shrimp production is heavily dependent on feed, which accounts for about 60–70% of the total production costs. In South Sulawesi, which has great potential to become a shrimp production center, the continuously rising feed prices pose a challenge for farmers. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence the demand for shrimp feed in South Sulawesi Province. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach by collecting data from farmers, feed distributors, and related agencies in South Sulawesi. The research results indicate that the main factors influencing shrimp feed demand include feed prices, feed quality, and feed availability, which affect their purchasing power. Meanwhile, the government's policy in supporting the provision of affordable feed also plays an important role. This research provides recommendations for the government and relevant parties to develop the fisheries sector through shrimp farming, supported by the availability of feed that meets the needs of farmers through various innovative and more efficient farming technologies, in order to enhance productivity and the welfare of shrimp farmers in South Sulawesi.
