Research on Sustainable Development Planning Strategies for Beijing’s Historic and Cultural Districts from a Multidisciplinary Perspective

In today’s accelerating global urbanization process, Beijing, as a cultural city with a long history, faces unprecedented challenges in the protection and development of its historical and cultural districts. This article deeply integrates theories and methods from multiple disciplines such as urban sociology, economics, and urban planning, and conducts detailed research on representative historical and cultural blocks such as Nanluoguxiang, Zhonggulou, and Yantai Xiejie. Research has found that residents in these neighborhoods have expressed strong dissatisfaction with excessive commercial development, and the depth and breadth of cultural participation are very limited; Merchants, on the other hand, often excessively pursue economic returns and overlook cultural values, leading to the increasing homogenization of commercial products within the neighborhood. In addition, the government is also facing many difficulties in coordinating departments and project approvals for the protection and development of neighborhoods. In response to these issues, this article proposes a series of targeted measures, including organizing folk cultural activities, building communication platforms for residents, establishing an evaluation system based on cultural and commercial values to support the development of businesses, and strengthening the construction of collaborative governance digital platforms in government management. This study provides a solid scientific basis and feasible practical guidance for the sustainable development of historical and cultural districts in Beijing.
