Shaping a Sustainable Tomorrow: - The Role of India’s IT Giants in Advancing UN SDGs 8, 9, 10, and 12

Abstract

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are set to provide a blueprint for culturing a sustainable and egalitarian future. This study focuses on how India’s IT Tech giants like TCS, Wipro, and Infosys parallel their functioning with the much-needed SDGs which focus on ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’ (SDG 8), ‘Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure’ (SDG 9) and ‘Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12)’. TCS having a record employing rate of over 612,756, emphasizes on skill development through its various programs like Ignite, training over 454,000 graduates. Along with Wipro’s talent development programs like the NeXT program that empowers young professionals, Infosys boasts an impressive statistic of 257,000 employees trained in future technologies through its groundbreaking Global Education Centre in Mysore. With $25.3 billion for TCS, $16.3 billion for Infosys, and $11 billion for Wipro in FY 2023, these computer behemoths proved their economic might. Businesses have put money into sustainable technologies like Al and blockchain because innovation is a top priority. TCS is even more dedicated to a sustainable future because to its zero-waste programs. Companies like Infosys and Wipro have shown the world how important the IT sector is to achieving India’s social, economic, and environmental objectives; the former has achieved carbon neutrality while the latter has achieved water positivity.
