Abstract

The transformation and enhancement of the manufacturing industry, along with the advancement of its international competitiveness, continue to be significant trends in the development of China’s manufacturing sector. In the context of the rapid development of the digital economy, it is necessary to explore the impact of the development level of the digital economy on the export competitiveness of the manufacturing industry. This paper establishes an index system to assess the development level of the digital economy, comprising three primary indexes and seven secondary indexes, which include digital infrastructure, the level of digital industry development, and the capacity for digital innovation, and uses the measurement data of 31 provinces in China from 2015 to 2022 to carry out an empirical test on the impact of digital economy development level on manufacturing export competitiveness. The results find that the development trend of China’s digital economy is growing steadily, and yet the situation of inter-regional incoordination is still severe; The development of the digital economy can promote the export competitiveness of the manufacturing industry, but there is regional heterogeneity among the east, west and central regions.
