Abstract

The hospitality sector is having an increasingly negative influence on the environment, which emphasizes the urgent need of sustainable practices adopted by hotels and resorts, especially when it comes to waste management. The purpose of this systematic literature study is to examine how hotel and resort operations might advance zero waste goals by implementing the principles of the circular economy (CE). This research identifies important tactics and practices that are consistent with CE principles, such as resource efficiency, waste minimization, and product lifecycle management, by methodically examining peer-reviewed publications, industry reports, case studies and other specified material related to the issue. It compiles research on cutting-edge waste minimization strategies, like closed-loop systems, recycling initiatives, and material reuse, and evaluates their viability within the framework of lodging facilities. The study will identify the key to CE practices and its effectiveness on waste management. The review also identifies obstacles and difficulties the hotel industry faces when putting CE practices into practice and provides suggestions for resolving them. The study will also provide an overview of how CE ideologies can drive zero waste in the hospitality industry.
