Abstract

This research investigates how community involvement affects the adoption and effectiveness of sustainable practices in Uttarakhand’s hotel industry. The primary objective is to assess how collaboration with local communities can improve the integration of eco-friendly initiatives within hotels. Adopting a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to collect detailed information from hotel management, employees, and community members. The analysis indicates that strong community engagement positively impacts the successful implementation of sustainable practices, leading to better environmental outcomes and enhanced social benefits. Hotels with robust community connections show greater success in applying measures such as waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation. The research also uncovers significant obstacles to community participation, including lack of awareness, insufficient resources, and resistance to change. The study provides practical recommendations for hotel operators and policymakers to strengthen community partnerships and advance sustainable tourism in Uttarakhand. It concludes that active community involvement is essential for the effective adoption of sustainable practices in the hospitality sector, offering valuable guidance for similar settings.
