Abstract

Historical and cultural districts serve as significant carriers of a city’s regional culture. The redesign of these districts should showcase their cultural depth and artistic value, serving as a symbol for preserving urban memories and maintaining the city’s character. It’s crucial for the design to avoid landscape homogenization in cultural spaces during urban renewal, as this can lead to a bland urban cultural image and dilute the city’s distinctive cultural identity. Particularly in today’s urban renewal efforts, where there’s an overemphasis on cultural representation, the sustainability and resilience of these districts hold great significance. This article focuses on the Tanhualin Historical and Cultural District in Wuhan. Utilizing the Kano model and incorporating questionnaire survey methods, it categorizes and prioritizes user needs from a humanistic perspective. By analyzing the impact of user needs on spatial satisfaction, it illustrates the nonlinear relationship between the Tanhualin Historical and Cultural District and user satisfaction, as well as the sequence of priority satisfaction for each element in enhancing the district’s satisfaction. Based on this, it integrates optimization strategies for the Tanhualin Historical and Cultural District, adjusts the renewal path according to data conclusions, preserves the district’s texture, resolves conflicts, enhances the iterative design updates of historical and cultural districts, and ultimately achieves sustainable development for local cultural space optimization.
