Abstract

The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into academic research has created unprecedented opportunities and challenges for maintaining research integrity and ethical standards. This paper examines the critical intersection of information literacy and AI literacy in cultivating ethical research practices within higher education contexts. It advocates for an integrated approach aimed at developing researchers’ competencies that address both traditional information evaluation skills and AI-specific considerations. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method to gather pertinent information through a comprehensive analysis of diverse articles related to the study. The paper explores the AI application in research, ethical challenges and academic integrity concerns, while offering practical recommendations for curriculum development, institutional policies, and pedagogical strategies. Given the evolving role of information literacy, the study advocates for the active involvement in leading AI literacy initiatives that uphold research integrity. This ensures that while harnessing the transformative potential of AI for scholarly inquiry, the integrity of the research process remains uncompromised.
