Abstract

This chapter argues that climate change profoundly affects health, with Africa as one of the most vulnerable regions due to economic dependency on climate-sensitive sectors and limited adaptive capacity. The intersection of climate change and health is evident through impacts such as rising temperatures, food insecurity, vector-borne diseases, and displacement. The chapter explores the outcomes of COP28’s first Health Day, including the adoption of the COP28 Declaration on Climate and Health by 148 nations, which emphasizes climate-resilient healthcare systems and global cooperation. It also highlights financing initiatives, including $1 billion in new commitments for climate-health projects, and the role of SMEs in climate action. Recommendations include strengthening international collaboration, investing in sustainable health infrastructure, and advocating for tailored climate-health policies. By integrating these strategies, nations can foster resilience and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals while addressing the dual crises of climate change and health inequities.
