Abstract

The chapter explores the Senegalese health system’s capacity to navigate global health challenges while addressing local realities, particularly during crises like Ebola and COVID-19. It highlights Senegal’s resilience, supported by robust infrastructure, international partnerships, and proactive governance, while acknowledging persistent disparities in healthcare access and socioeconomic determinants of health. Situating these issues within the African governance framework, it underscores the role of institutions like the African Union and the West African Health Organization in strengthening regional global health governance. The chapter identifies opportunities for a global health governance reform informed by recent pandemics, advocating equity, solidarity, and social justice as pillars of resilient health systems. The analysis calls for inclusive policies to bridge structural inequalities and enhance health outcomes in low- and middle-income countries.
