Abstract

Nigeria-South Africa relations have experienced a roller-coaster ride, with a significant impact on peace, sustainable development and regional integration in Africa. Pretoria and Abuja enjoy a remarkable status on the continent. Their hard power (economic and military capacity) and soft power (culture, values and policies) have positioned them as regional powers and find expression in their influential roles in their respective sub-regions, the continent and the world at large. It is against this backdrop that this chapter engages Nigeria-South Africa relations and their implications for both countries’ regional status and impact on regional integration.
