External Factors and Models of Capitalism: The Romanian Experience

Abstract

The cross-country and time-series analysis undertaken in Chapter 4 concluded quite convincingly that external factors generally have a positive impact on institutional transformation and economic performance in CEECs. At the same time, the analysis carried out in Chapter 3 showed that, in comparative perspective, Romania has been lagging behind other CEECs both in terms of economic performance and institutional transformation; several domestic factors accountable for this evolution have been identified.
