Abstract

This chapter presents key regulatory aspects that pertain to SSS and discusses how the key regulations and standards issued by international bodies are followed by SSS companies. The chapter discusses the role of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Labour Organization (ILO) as well as UN’s Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) & International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) Conventions. Similarly, the Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) and Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) are also discussed.
