Abstract

This chapter analyzes the case of the automobile manufacturing company Ford Motor Argentina during the 1976–1983 dictatorship in Argentina. First, it summarizes the company’s history in Argentina until the 1970s. Second, it analyzes the process of labor organization and repression in the 1970s. Third, it studies the economic evolution of the company during the dictatorship and the unprecedented profits companies attained. Finally, it briefly reviews the judicial process that resulted in the conviction of a military chief and two Ford Motor Argentina top officials for human rights violations perpetrated against twenty-four workers and shop stewards of the firm, who were kidnapped, tortured, and imprisoned between 1976 and 1977.
