Abstract

In the early 19th century, the discovery of Antonio Serra as an economist marked the turning point in the entire history of economic ideas in Italy with highly significant implications from our historiographical point of view. The aim of this paper is to examine the sequence of different evaluations of Serra in 19th-century Italian economic thought as it changed from the legacy of the late mercantilistic tradition of Genovesi to the new liberal economic science.
