Abstract

While virtual reality (VR) is making inroads into the training and education sector, the literature does not study in detail its influence on the user’s emotional and learning process. Yet these factors are essential to facilitating the use and dissemination of this technology among professionals in the sector. To better understand the influence of VR on user experience and learning, this study mobilizes the main theoretical foundations of self-determination and psychological well being. Based on a sample of 186 continuing education employees in the industrial sector, our results show that VR enhances users’ emotional involvement and confidence in VR training. These variables accentuate the perceived acquisition of skills and the intention to recommend the technology. Our results invite professionals to deploy this technology more widely in their training strategy and provide them with some concrete recommendations.
