Abstract

The main objective of this study is to identify the key pediments to youth entrepreneurship growth in Portugal. At this moment, the number of youth groups (age 20–45) is more than half of the total population (10.53 million). Since 2021, the government has allocated a huge budget and implemented various plans to provide supportive programs for the youth group. The reason behind these initiatives is to reduce vulnerable youth groups, increase an entrepreneurial mindset, and obtain sustainable economic growth. In 2023, the unemployment rate was 6.5% higher than the previous year. After interviewing using open and closed-ended questions, 71% of respondents did not agree that national spending helps to increase youth entrepreneurship ability and mindset. In contrast, 89% of respondents agree that personal development through understanding economic terminology and national economic conditions will boost the number of youth entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial mindset. A total of 141 youth participated in interviews (55% in groups, 35% individually, and 10% virtually) in this study. Further studies are required to be conducted on when and how to let the youth groups understand the economic conditions and the economic terminology in Portugal.
