Abstract

Within a dynamic and constantly changing global environment, the changes that organisations have to go through are massive. The purpose of this study is to reveal the most recent trends of markets, industries, and organisations, and how they react to these major fluctuations to expand their horizons. Through a systematic literature review of high-quality studies in the fields of innovation and management, a descriptive and thematic analysis was performed to identify common patterns, derive practical and theoretical implications, and propose directions for future research. The main findings of this study include that the major changes that businesses are going through are, among others, related to digitalisation and innovation systems, sustainability concerns, political and financial crises, and changes in consumer behaviour. The novelty of this research lies in presenting the most recent changes and disruptions, serving as a helpful guide for industries and organisations on how to prepare for adaptation to an ever-changing global environment that affects their operations and mindset, and may serve as motivators for expanding their horizons.
