Abstract

Digital transformation is a critical priority for leaders in almost every industry, as it can support organisations in increasing their performance and making them more resilient. Within this context, robotic process automation (RPA) is a promising technology that can help companies automate time-consuming and repetitive tasks, enabling them to improve efficiency and productivity and save valuable resources. Despite the growing interest in RPA, there is still limited empirical evidence on how it can effectively support companies, highlighting business benefits and challenges. This research examines the impact of RPA on supporting companies' digital transformation, analysing two real-life cases from the banking and public sector. The results provide valuable insights for research in the field, entrepreneurs, and managers. In addition, it highlights future research avenues and further strategic roles of RPA, mainly when leveraging it alongside Artificial Intelligence (AI).
