Abstract

The unifying aim of this book has been to present an overview of the history and development of the Turkish banking sector, with the major emphasis being on the causes and effects of financial and economic crises, both in the banking industry and the overall economy, to study the financial structure and performance of the banking industry and to look at the future of Turkish banking by examining recent and future developments towards Turkey’s EU membership. Overall, the book contributes to our knowledge of the Turkish banking sector’s past, present and future. Specifically, it is one of few works that have examined and brought together various sources in one place. Our findings can be summarized as follows.
