Abstract

The guarantee system for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Argentina is characterized by some key elements that, in a few years, made it particularly effective. In a country in which the vast majority of companies are SMEs and the overall financial system intermediates a very limited portion of the GDP, the mutual guarantee institutions (SGRs) seem to actually facilitate the access of SMEs to the financial system as well as they allow their clients to obtain better credit conditions.
