Abstract

In the financial world, Denmark started playing its formal part in 1736, when the first bank in the dual monarchy of Denmark-Norway was born. The following 75 years clearly demonstrated the extent to which Denmark-Norway was subject to the political and economic winds blowing on the global stage.1 The great Northern War (1709–1720) had indirect links to the Spanish War of Succession, and the fate of the dual monarchy in 1814 was a direct consequence of the Napoleonic wars.
