Abstract

More than any other industry the viability of the banking sector greatly matters for a country’s economic well-being. While banks may appear somewhat abstract in what they are doing, the consequences of their activities are usually very concrete and far reaching for most people. In the event of a banking crisis, let alone a bank run, the ramifications are such that they can cause a long economic recession. The list of banking crises and bank runs in modern history is long, reccurring at intervals that makes one wonder what hampers the learning process of those who are in positions that could change the outcome.
