Abstract

This chapter outlines the main continuities and discontinuities in the history of US foreign financial and monetary policies from the late 1950s through to the end of the 1970s that this study charted. It pinpoints the main research trajectories and outcomes of the book and suggests that the start of the Volcker monetary revolution in 1979 marked a watershed in the history of both US foreign economic policy and the Bretton Woods international economic institutions.
