Abstract

The greatest natural asset of this small (45,226 sq km) Baltic state is its location at the crossroads of east and west. Estonia lies just south of Finland and across the Baltic Sea from Sweden — the EU’s newest member. To the east are the huge potential markets of northwest Russia. As members of the former Soviet Union, Estonians are quite familiar with the ways of doing business in Russia and in the Commonwealth of Independent States. Estonia’s modern transportation and communication links provide a safe and reliable bridge for trade with the ex-USSR and the Nordic countries.
