Abstract

Getting good information in most of Asia is not easy. Due diligence reports with gaping holes, local partners with fingers in many pies (most of which are kept hidden), vaguely specified contracts, companies with three or more sets of books, rumours that are never confirmed or dismissed — such are the joys of operating in Asia. Information is like gold in Asia — it’s valuable, scarce and no one ever has enough. And when legal structures are poor in Asia, remedying mistakes can be difficult. So it pays to do your research first. But how do you get good, timely and reliable information?
