Abstract

In what follows, we will describe recent trends in global flows of funds. We will first focus on analysing recent trends in flows to developing countries, emphasizing in particular the trend towards far greater securitization of flows, leading to very rapid growth of portfolio flows. As we will see later, this seems to have important policy implications. Then we will examine in some depth the new and changing sources of capital flows going to developing countries, emphasizing in particular institutional investors as new sources of funds.
