Abstract

This chapter discusses some of the general orientations that have emerged from the work carried out by the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) on eco-labelling. This work has been conducted in the context of the Group on Environmental Measures and International Trade, a working group which was convened in November 1991 on the basis of an agenda of three items, one of which concerned the trade effects of new forms of labelling and packaging requirements aimed at protecting the environment.
