Abstract

In 1986 the twelve member countries of the European Community (EC) signed the Single European Act according to which the internal market, including the so called ‘financial dimension’, shall be established by the end of 1992. This declaration postulates that by this year all financial institutions will have the freedom to offer their financial services at any place of their choice within the area of the Community. As a consequence all non-bank units of the EC countries will be able to dispose of the whole spectrum of financial products.
